Book series for textural articulations. Contribution: "Bei Konnopke's"
The Series
texturen is a book series for textural articulations, published at the Institute for Theory and Practice of Communication at the University of the Arts Berlin. Between small field studies, journalistic essayism and academic discourse, the format gathers contemporary explorations of thematic complexes: Wohnen (Living), Spielen (Playing), Essen (Eating).
The thematic field of food opens up a view on the cultural histories of eating – gathered, hunted, or bought – as well as cooking and preparation. Easily and less easily digestible: taste and staging between currywurst and Michelin-starred cuisine, controversies of the food industry. Food becomes experience, sin, and an avant-garde act of deconstruction.
My Contribution
"Bei Konnopke's" — a literary reportage in which I examined Berlin's most famous snack bar beneath the elevated railway on Schönhauser Allee through the lens of a gastrosopher and cultural scholar, and processed it literarily.
Konnopke's is more than a currywurst stand. It is a place where urban history, food culture and Berlin identity converge. The reportage moves between participant observation, culinary cultural critique and narrative condensation – a text that takes the everyday seriously as a cultural phenomenon.
